Speedplay zeros and Sidi shoes

Hello - I've taken delivery of some zeros today and am in the process of fitting them to some Sidi shoes (Millenium III sole). The Sidi instructions state that I need 3 F and 3 R shims, however the zeros only come with 1F/1R and 4F/4R shims. The inference from this numbering, is that 2F/2R and 3F/3R are available to order - but there is no mention of them in the fitting instructions.

I seem ok with the 4F/4R combo - however, has anyone else encountered this and know whether or not the 3F/3R shims are essential when fitting the zero cleats to Sidi shoes?

Cheers

This guy had the same issue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF_rxpXP ... re=related About 2:40ish

From memory I think I had the same problem.
  • Thanks Sean - useful link. And I thought I was bad for tinkering in the garage!

It's odd that Speedplay don't advise on the mysterious no. 3 shims - as obviously a lot of people use Sidi shoes. A quick google confirms that they are widely available to order separatly, which I might do just to be safe.

Loving the shoes - they are a revelation after years of spd-sl's, which feel very restrictive in comparision. The main advantage of the latter is the ease of walking in them (I think the using the speedplays in the snow could prove an interesting challenge!), however I've got some coffee stops on order so hopefully should sort that out.

  • Sorry - meant to ask, has anyone switching to Speedplays found that they need to heighten their saddle, as, obvioulsy, there is a very close interface between shoe and pedal compared to other systems?

Stack height's generally reduced when moving to Speedplay so if anything you might need to lower your saddle.
