Help Servicing Sora Front Hub

I've just stripped my son's front hub as the wheel is running poorly. The cones are pitted although the cups looks okay. I need to replace the cones quickly as he is racing on Wednesday - hopefully my LBS will carry these. I noticed that each cup has ten bearings but the Shimano replacement Sora bearing kits have only 18. I bought the bike second hand - it is possible that it has 1 too many bearings fitted on each side?

Front hubs normally have 10 x 3/16'' bearings, rear hubs have 9 x 1/4'' bearings. With most bearings its the inner race that wears so the cups should outlast the cones. Most local bike shops stock standard cone/spindle sets that you can use. I did my rear wheel last year and the new cones came in a set complete with spindle that was the wrong length so I just used my old spindle with the new cones.
