Hi folks,

Quick question for you?, after each ride I wipe the dust and stuff of my forks and shock, what if anything should I wipe on after cleaning?. Fork is a Pike, shock is a RP23.

Please don't put me down!, I am a converted roadie and trying to learn, lol.
Thanks
Steve

Not sure if this is the recognised best option Swifty but I give the sliding surfaces on mine a wipe with GT85.

I clean them to get any dust or gunk off the top of the seals and spray with a silicone lube.

  • Do NOT use GT85 to lube ur stanchions!! You dont want a solvent in ur forks..

Use a small amount of chain lube wiped around the stanchion, pump ur forks, wipe off excess...

    Fork Juice.

Works very well & it's economical in use, it also smells great!

I agree. I use a wet lube on the stanchions as it tends to stay there a bit longer and gives a smoother feel to the travel. I use Finish Line Wet.

I do the same, finish line wet round the seal area on the rear and the forks and then sit on the bike and bounce up and down a bit to run the shocks through their travel and then wipe off any excess.

    never GT85

GT85 ruined my seals. Wet lube is thew way.
  • If you really want to use a spray get one with Silicone in it, Halfords do a Silicone spray. This is safe on plastic's and rubber. Most mineral (crude oil) based lubricants/sprays (GT85/WD40) will rot rubber and plastic's over time.

Crap! Last time I use GT85 on my forks and shock. It's a good thing I don't clean my bike very often. Fork Juice for me from now on, cheers fellas.
    Happy trails.
  • Use silicon based lube for two reasons.
    1. Does not effect the rubber seals.
    2. Less likely to pick up grit and dust which gets embedded in your seals and wears the stanchions
  • I've used GT85 on just about anything plastic/rubber for years without any problems that i know of.

Whilst I understand not to coat the fork legs in, just a quick spray and wipe off how bad can it actually be?
