Looks like I'm going for the Specialized S-Works road shoes, due to convenience of retailer, and having tried them on, even if the Sidi's are a better fit, I don't think I'm going to be experiencing any problems with them.

So I need some new pedals, I like the look of the Time pedals, and the iClic carbons are winning it so far for me, I don't really want to spend much more. Does any body have these? Would you recommend them?

I have them and really like them. Great feeling of security once you're clipped in and a very smooth mechanism.

The iClic Racer is an improvement on the old RXS and for some reason the Carbons are much smoother to clip in to (probably the most common complaint about Time pedals). I have the racers on the race bike and the carbons on the overpriced commuter bike that I don't dare to race  .

The cleats do wear out very quickly if you walk in them at all but Time have already released a stronger version of the cleats so I'm hopeful that they will have pretty much fixed the problem.

Thanks for that advice, do they always present cleat up? I have problems with my shimano's that they don't always present the right way, not a huge problem but sometimes causes an issue if I'm pulling away in traffic.

Regarding the clip in issue, I had heard that they're so smooth you don't sometimes realise you're in, I presume you get used to it?

Hmm I can't say I'd ever considered them. Just having a look now, they look interesting..although the size of the cleat puts me off. How are they in practice?

they are fantastic, ive used a whole host of pedals and they are the ones that are the easiest to clip into (due to them being double sided), they have the most adjustable float (0-15 degrees if you buy into the zero range), and they have as big a platform as other pedals.

cleats aren't cheap at £40 but they last alot longer than other cleats.

I don't have a problem with the Times presenting (the Carbons anyway, Racers aren't quite so good). Left to rest they always seem to be in the same position (about 30 degrees off vertical) which brings them into position very quickly as you move off.

I was looking at these or Speedplays myself, suspect they're both great pedals and the double sidedness of speedplays does have it's appeal in London traffic...

Anyone with Speedplays want to comment on the one weakness they seem to have? I've heard the occasional story of the float opening over time as the screws work loose. Anyone here experienced it?

i have not had any problem with my float and ive been using the pedals for nearly 18months now. Ive used them in all weathers (ice and snow was difficult). But the doublesidedness is what sold it for me, especially when riding fixed.

I've iclic carbon and racer pedals I'm using with specialised expert shoes. Cleat wear on the original style cleats was truly shocking, totally buffered after four weeks. Put new style cleats on at weekend and nothing has broken on them yet but they still seem to be wearing fast. Also, seem to have a lot more play on right foot on both pedal types, so much so I've managed to mark the cranks quite a bit with my shoes. Not really impressed with them at all.

Not used them myself ut know people who have them and they rate them. Speedplays always get a good press but appear to be high maintenance in that if you get the shoe plate gritty then you may have problems clipping in. Prob. not suitable for cross riding but for racing and rides that involve v.litle unclipping then they seem good. Those special issue ones for Roubaix look v.cool

tbh mrushton i had no problem in any weather apart from the ice and snow and that was because the cleat got full so couldnt clip in. quick spray of deicer kept me clear for the rest of the ride

I've tried lots of pedals - Look CX6 carbon deltas, Look Keo carbons, Time Impact Pro Magnesium, plus a heap of road SPD versions and now Speedplay Zeros.

Overall, I find the Zeros the "best" pedal, largely because the double side thing is handy, and the float adjustment is useful. But functionally, the Keos were just as good with the red or grey cleats for float.

No problems with snow or ice in my part of the world, but there is a lot of sand and THAT causes problems with clicking in on the Zeros.

You need to use the cleat covers walking around anyway as the outer face of the Zero cleat is aluminium, which is dangerous to walk on.... and do NOT use a wet lube on the cleat spring, as that's what collects all the crap.

I've not tried the iClic but I love the RSX that I have - I have the carbon models on my posh bike and the bearlings are amazingly smooth - a bit fiddly to get into as is well documented, but once they are equally secure and solid but easy to release when you intend to.

I have Xen on my my winter bike and they are OK - a bit cheap looking - IMO the entry level times look a bit cheap and nasty but the better models look really good.

The cleats last forever - I still have a pair that came with my carbons last summer as I am stil using the cleats which came with the xens the year before!!

    Hey Jim,

Where did you get your new style cleats from?
