Hello, I have a corsa car and am looking for a cycle carrier for 2 or 3 bikes. I do have a Saris Sentinal 2 bike rack but to honest when my bikes on it I dont feel safe driving (the thing doesnt seem stable at all). I have seen the Halfords option

does anyone have any experience of these? any advise or words or wisdom?

Cheers

    I use a one of these http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/bones-3-bike-p155139

Injection–molded arms and legs - the strongest on the market.
Built with 100% recyclable, non–rusting materials.
Ratcheting anti–sway straps secure and stabilize bikes.
Arc–based design fits over most spoilers, and separates bikes on different levels.

I've not found a car I can't fit it to yet. Currently lent to my best mate for him to carry his bike on a smart roadster.

Won't that just wheelie everywhere with a bike on the back of it?

 does look quite funny. Also he is over 6ft tall and do wonder how he manages to fit in it sometimes

I have one of these: http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.204-2168.aspx

Solid as a rock. No straps to work loose or get cut. Make sure you get the right model, though: http://www.thule.com/en-GB/GB/FitGuide.aspx#startApp

Simply a Saris Bones...expensive, but won't rust and is easily transferable between makes and models...I bought mine on ebay for £80 and it was good as new...super secure and protects the bikes with its securing straps...wouldn't use anything else now.

  • Cheers as ever i`m leaning towards the Saris bones 3 at the moment. Just slightly worried of saris after the sentinal I had before.

    Cheers again

Had my Saris bones for about 5 years, not had a single problem with it.

    Hi

I had a Saris Bones 3, and must say its super easy to fit and very sturdy with 1 or 2 bikes, less so with 3 on it. Also check whether the bikes will cover the number plate on your car (in my case they did - as this means a spare number plate attached on the outside adding to the cost, or a possibllity of being pulled over by plod.)
I got rid of mine and bought some Thule roof bars and carriers as I was getting annoyed not being able to open the boot when the carrier was on, and folding it up and storing after each ride. Roof bars are a bit more expensive but you can just leave them on all the time, without any boot hassles.

Also note that leaving roof bars on your car will increase you fuel consumption.
