Bent seatpost... In danger of cracking frame?

I've managed to bend my On-One Twelfy (sp) seatpost. I realise they're prone to it, as i've seen pictures of bent ones in the past. I'll be buying something different.

Am i in danger of damaging my frame, by running too much seatpost? The post is around 350mm long, and i have 150mm inserted in the frame with 200mm showing. 6', 14 stone rider on an 18" 456. I'm begining to wonder wether i would have been better off with a 20" frame.

And please, no-one tell me i should buy a Thompson - i'm not spending 80 quid on a length of aluminium tube  . Thanks in advance :)

I've bent a raceface and an Titec one with out really trying hard so its pretty common. I guess as long as the post in as far as the min mark on the post it should be ok.
Bikes are OK, I guess... :-)

    Buy a longer one...400mm ? I've got a brand new 27.2 400mm seatpost here you can buy :D

Seriously, 150mm in the frame shouldnt damage it but then 200mm showing, you shouldnt really be bending them. Perhaps you are spending to much time actually riding on your saddle? Especially on a Hard tail. Try teaching yourself to ride standing up.

I've bent 2 or 3 seatposts over the last 3 years or so and I bought a Thomson post. £45 second hand and it looks like a work of art but more importantly, it hasn't bent and there is 250mm of 400 mm showing.

My seat snapped off once causing a badly sprained ankle; not very nice.... I'd get a new pin ASAP if I were you...

I'm also 6' but a touch heavier than you and ride an 18" 456 as well so it should be fine.

I have a lot of post showing, you should be fine wih any of the decent strong posts. I used to bend posts fairly regularly but have since moved onto second hand thomsons and not bent one (i'm not saying they're unbendable though) and i'm running them quite extended.

Not sure what else to recommend in terms of stength though.

Merlin cycles are doing Easton Havoc and Thomson Elite posts for about £50 at the moment. Bargainous value.

I go by weight and I make sure my 400mm post does not weigh less than 300g. I have a £32 Control Tech One ATM which has the same ovalised interior profile as the Thomson. I don't think it'll bend any time soon.
