changing forks on hybrid

I currently ride a hybrid - cannondale badboy v brake 2009
have been commuting 25 mile round trip once/twice a week and usually do 25/45 miles per weekend
i am now buying a drop handle bar roadbike for my commute and road rides
and want advice on converting my hybrid to an off road mtb by changing the forks to suspension
would be riding forest rails in and around essex - hainault/epping forest if anybody knows them - really want to mix up the type of riding i do
is this plausible and will i need to change anything else?
all advice very welcome
cheers

It uses Cannondale's Caffeine frame tubing, but has thinner profile tubes, so its based on one but not 100% the same.
