Are there any serious hills in cheshire except for the old cat & fiddle / around mac?

Looking to cycle upto buxton in a couple of weeks but it's a good trek from where I live (northwich). wanted to try and find a decent hill to train on before hand.......

Any ideas around Northwich?

You can go up and down Winnington Hill about 10 times.. that should have you pumped up..... if you get up The Cloud and have a looksee over Cheshire Plain... you won't see many bumps I'm afraid.... only Beeston/Peckforton and Helsby.

Aye, there's not really any "serious" hills in Cheshire. Mow Cop straddles the Cheshire/Shropshire border though.

There's a few 10%-20% inclines, but they are all really short - ~100m or less normally.

The peak of Mow Cop is in Staffordshire, not Shropshire.

Macclesfield isn't too far away. Why not just pop over and do some climbing?

Nothing QUITE like the Cat and Fiddle - but theres some nice challenges round Frodsham, Delamere, Kelsall way.

Quite possibly the most over-rated climb in the UK.

I've only done it a couple of times myself - its a decent length, but not that hard. Plenty of better climbs round North Wales that are far quieter.

Cheers guys. Gonna try the hills up near buxton.

Wanted something that wouild take a few miinutes, at least get me in a little ring rather than just having to stand up and peddle hard for 30secs or so.

Who said no hills in Cheshire? Back from 60 miles around and about.. well a foray into Shrops and then return in Cheshire... the drag up Bickerton/Broxton had me swearing.
As a county it has a unique flavour which I love being Cheshire born ... any town largish village seemingly not much of a descent into it but always a b breaker to get out of it.
As has been said by the TdF commentary boys H&K - its not how steep it is... it's how quick you are up it.

    ^ thats right........

No real big hills, plenty of short sharp shocks. But nothing wrong with going back down & doing them again
