You can end an auction early on ebay, but you'll get charged for it. That's about it I think.
It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

Say the bike has been damaged and is no longer in a safe condition, i think that's listed as one of their valid reasons for cancelling a sale

Just get your mate to bid on it on his account and outbid everyone else. Then just do the deal on the price you agreed not what he bid for it on fleabay.

you can withdraw it whenever you like, its your bike. just use the excuse "the item is no longer for sale"

i do it all the time. if you let your mate buy it, you will be charged a final value fee by ebay whereas ending it mens you just get charged for the cost of displaying the auction.
