Hi all,
I am currently training for a London to Paris Bike ride over 4 days and have been using my Boardman Hybrid bike to train... I have been looking at purchasing a road bike but clearly been confused with loads of investigating and advise from others... i.e CUBE Pentolon, Cannondale C8, Specialized Allez, etc all just under £800... can anyone please advise which bike would be best suited, i am a beginner and would like to pursue this further as time goes by...
Thanks
Kiran

If you're doing it this Friday stick to what you're riding now.

Hi Kiran, +1 for above. The Boardman is perfectly fine for the trip. I had one (just nicked last week - b@stards) and it good for long trips. Just make sure it's serviced and don't forget to carry spare tubes. Good luck!
Visit Ireland - all of it! Cycle in Dublin and know fear!!

I have Flat Bars on my Hybrid, would i be better off with drop down? Also is it best to get the pedals changed so i can wear the correct footwear? as i am currently cycling in my trianers :)

Road bike position is definitely better for you - more aero and more positions.
Proper clip in shoes will also help you - better power transmission.

When is the ride though - you need time to get used to all this stuff.

The Boardman road bike would be a good bet.

  • What about the Specialized Secteur range?
Allez 16 - bad weather / turbo trainer
Tarmac Expert SL3 - test colours
Dogma 2 - ex Team Sky
  • I did it several years ago on a Spesh Allez, which is pretty standard, but the same year there were several people on mtb's with trainers and managed ok...they were usually among the last to arrive at the end of each day, but if you're in no great rush then just do it on whatever you find comfortable.
