Looking into getting a new helmet, ones of those XC/AM jobs with the added rear head protection.

My 3 favourites at the moment are the Fox Flux, Giro Hex and the 661 Recon.

Now I think the Giro Hex is probably the most popular out of those 3, but has anyone for any opinions/personal review of all 3 helmets? I'm leaning towards the Fox at the moment, purely because I like how it looks.

Any other helmets that are much better in the same price range?

Try them on & get the one that fits properly

This will be being done, I was just wanting some personal reviews if anyone didn't get on with any of the helmets, or if there was any others I should consider.

Met Kaos is a decent helmet, well vented & pretty lightweight

Ooooohh, quite nice actually! Hadn't seen that one before, going to have to pop down to the lbs soon we what they got in stock. If they don't have any of the ones I want I am going to be annoyed!

I've got a Hex and a Flux, I think on paper the Hex is better- it's lighter and a lot smaller, and has a much better strap. They both fit me very well. But the Flux just works better for some reason, the cradle round the back of the head runs lower so it straps the helmet more round your head than on top of it, which makes it really stable without needing to be as tight, and the vents are huge. It is MASSIVE though and I hate the stupid wing thing, it does come off though.

If I kill it I'll be buying another I'm sure. But it could really do with being modernised and shrunk, and the strap fitting is terrible compared to the Hex.

  • had a hex for a few years now, great lid, and popular, doesnt look too mushroomy on your head either,
good ventilation (especially for one with a Very sweaty noggin!!), comfortable, light, and quite sturdy too!! worth getting some extra helmet pads too, found mine fall apart quite quickly!! have two sets ive sewn the edges back up and one set thats undergoing some glueing!!
