Brakes on a Bullhorn
I have an old Rayleigh Light Tourer in Reynolds 531. I fitted Moustache bars but fancy trying Bullhorns.
I found these

Brake levers seem normally to be fitted to the end of the horns, but do they work if fitted on the straight?
Any comments?

It depends on the levers used. If you try and use the ones in the picture you'll end up with a strange cable run so you'd need ones designed for flat bars. (Actually I've just noticed they have the cables coming from the top rather than concealed so they'd be OK, but see belwo).
I would use the levers you've got and put them on the ends. It is an extremely comfortable place to have them and they fall really easily to hand. Try it, you'll love it. I have all my bikes (tourer, road bike and commuter) with this set up now (bull bars and levers on the end).
Nice bike by the way, I much prefer the look of older bikes.0 -

I'd get TT levers. They are not expensive, work very well and are small and neat. You could stick drop bar levers at the end but the cable run would be messier and they would be very bulky. HOWEVER this is indeed what people used to do before TT-specific levers were invented so arguably it would suit the vintage of the bike.

That indeed is a thing of beauty. Lugs, don't you just love them. I am very very envious. Although how do you pedal it, do you stick your toes in the end of the cranks?0
