I think the funniest part of the whole world cup was how all of the commentators on BBC, as soon as spain won, started talking about how they knew they could do it from the start and there was no doubt they were going to win.......strange how they waited till the end result to mention that one!

The final was the only game I watched. Thought I should, just to see what all the fuss was about. I'd watched the Tour earlier in the day (it was the day when Armstrong crashed twice, and just got back on his bike and finished with blood down his leg and holes in his top), so it was a full day of watching sport.

I spent most of the match waiting for someone to stay on their feet after a tackle, and not rolling around on the floor in 'agony'. It did happen on one Spanish break when the striker (like I know his name) shrugged off a couple of hard tackles and put in a good shot. I was then amazed that the commentator made an off-hand comment along the lines that if they'd tried to tackle him in the box, he'd have gone down to try and get a penalty. Is that what you do in football now? I'll give Becks the benefit of the doubt, and say that's what he was talking about.

To be honest I thought it was such a ridiculous suggestion I thought it was a wind-up. If Capello struggled with the players what chance has a squeaky voiced underwear model got? If Beckham became England manager it would go beyond parody.

I'm pretty sure the Spanish players were confident they could win from the start..... their press conferences show that. No point slating the commentators for pointing that out.

As for Beckham's comment, he's right. He's played in Spain with and against a lot of them players and they actually play the game it's meant to be played (the Clough way.... passing teams to death) albeit with added drama to ensure that contentious decisions go their way wherever possible, but ALL teams are guilty of that these days. Not something I like in the modern game and something which has turned me right off football over the last 10 years.

I'm sure he's not as thick as people make him out to be, but he's probably not exactly a genius either. Do you remember when Rooney got sent off for sarcastically applauding the referee a couple of years back? Well, monkey see, monkey do, Beckham got himself sent off for exactly the same thing 4 days later. :roll:

I also remember watching England get knocked out of one of the tournaments a few years back, when Beckham spent the entire match hoofing the ball up to Shrek and little Michael Owen. Every time the defenders won the headers. I can't see him having the tactical nous to be a manager TBH. I hope he steers clear of management because I hate seeing good players ruining their reputations as managers.

I can't see Beckham as a future England manager. 1: He's English. 2: Posh would never allow it. 3: He just wouldn't be taken seriously. 4: He'll never retire as a player.

Gary Neville I can see going into management. Paul Scholes maybe. The rest of that generation will never see the need or the inclination to put themselves at the mercy of the press to that extent.

Football management is a strange beast. I still don't know how to spot which ex-player will make a good manager. Hands up who also thought that certain players would be world beating managers only to be proved wrong no matter how many chances offered? Players like Graham Souness, Bryan Robson, Roy Keane (ok, the jury's still out there).

Maybe I keep making the mistake of assuming that a good leader on the pitch will make someone who can inspire others when off it and has tactical nous, rather than following someone else's gameplan.

Fergie and Arsene were pros but not great ones, Capello was a great player and is a great manager. Becks was a great player so, erm, not sure what my point is or where I am going with this one :?:

when it comes to football, he is a lot smarter than me (Le Soux qoute I seem to remember)
