we use the (in comparison) tiny PMC's that are meant to be the alternative monitors

If they're AML-1s, we make the cabs for those too. :D Just did a batch of 50 yesterday. I'd heard they get good reviews. Quite a nifty little design.
    Happy trails.

yeehaa I'm not a fan of Genelec, we have some mahoosive ones in one of our studios and we use the (in comparison) tiny PMC's that are meant to be the alternative monitors  We also have some 8030's and 8040's set up for surround, still not a fan though.
Ah, see I'm a massive diehard fan of Genelecs. I love that crisp top end, same goes for B&Ws at home.
PMC's are also nice, but man I love those genelecs.
Our newest post studio has two 8050s, with a 7070A sub. Tasty stuff!
The BIG ATCs in the main studio are also nice though

    - one of those jobs that sounds infinitely more glamorous than it is..

had a glorious ten year plan to be mortgage free and go gallavanting across the manky bits of the globe from rig > pipeline > refinery. just turning up on monday to find the company hasn't gone bust is a victory now though :(

i remember over-time: those were the days

The mahoosive ones are the 1037's, They have nice top and low end, but we find that the mid section is just lost or muffled. I love how peoples ears hear different things, it's fascinating.
The subs we have are 7060's, I have to say, they do there job brilliantly 8)

Hmm, I've never listened to the really really big Genelecs, but the mid on our 8050s, and 1039s is clear as a bell. I find the high-mid to extreme high end on the ATCs a bit soft, but easy to work with.
Not a fan of ATC SCM20s at all in our second studio though. I'd almost prefer NS10s  Flabby, no definition, not crispness.

Quite a strong military contingent here. Strong! And those of you who are not still have some pretty cool jobs! It would seem that mountain bikers are in possession of some of the better DNA in this nation. I wonder what this thread would look like in the roadie forum! :D

what the hell is with I.T people?
It for a "broadcaster", I.T. for a "Major retailer"?

Who exactly is the Major Retailer, or Broadcaster?
That's quite apart from the fact that I.T. can mean virtually anything, from swappipng out broken mice, to managing buildings full of servers, to web design, to proprietary programming.

You may as well just say "I work somewhere"

Not tried the ATC's at all, so can't really comment, though I have heard good things about them. NS10's though... really!? SCM20's are that bad!?

yep, SCM 20s are horrible. It's certainly not the amp driving them, it is simply stunning when paired with the right monitors.

I hate NS10s with a passion, but they really are better to work with than SCM20s. Actually, I lie there, I love NS10s, when used as a kick mic

One of the funny things about monitors is how live sound, broadcast, and music studio monitors all sound differently. I just cannot get on with monitors intended for broadcast at all. We demoed a pair of Dynaudio BM6As, and they were bloody horrendous. Really woolly, no definition, and sloppy - but they're actually very highly regarded in broadcast circles, oddly

    the broadcaster is the BBC.

as for the job, it's really not important, and redundancy looms shortly anyway....

Not everyone wants to put their employer on a public forum... Although I agree that I.T. is a lame description of your job, probably means they do 1st line support :p

I did that for my final year project at uni. It left me a broken shell of the man I used to be.
