Hi All

I'm looking at buying another pair of bib shorts and I wondered if anyone had tried the Shutt VR Pro Bib Coolmax?

http://www.shuttvr.com/shop/productdeta ... d=Pro_Bibs

I normally go for Assos F1 Uno but they are expensive and wondered how the Shutt VR's would compare?

They would have to be good to beat Assos!

Cheers

I have assos Uno's & Milles, but recently bought a pair of the Shutt VR Pro bibs.
I haven't worn the Assos since!
The Shutt bibs seem to fit a little more comfortably; The shoulder straps are a little longer, which I prefer, as I felt the Assos ones are a little short.
The leg length is a touch shorter, too. Again, I prefer the slightly shorter leg length, as I have ickle legs!
I have read somewhere, that the insert in both shorts is supplied by the same people (I can't confirm that though). It is the same colour, and certainly feels very comfortable to me, on all my rides, whether they're hard intervals, or 4 hours plus...
I'm very pleased with them, and I know that they respond to emails/phone calls quickly... Doubt Assos would do that!

    How wierd.

Last minth I cycled to Italy with a pair of each. I must say I looked forward to putting the Shutt ones on. They fit well and were really comfy. I couldn't tell you why but they just felt nicer. They are cheaper which is a bonus as well but even at the same price I would pick the Shutt ones.

    Doh! Sorry about that.

Two great reviews, they sound really good. The only thing that puts me off them slightly is the high front. Do you find the high front an issue when you go to the loo?

Thought you'd say that. Seriously though, is it a problem or are they not that high?

I had no issues and when I've been on the bike it looks like a dwarfs thumb sticking out of a bush!

I got a pair of the Shutts yesterday and they are comfier than my Assos and unlike some shorts they don`t put everything on display.
The only drawback seems to be that there isn`t as much choice of sizes.
Edit: I had another ride in them today and they weren`t so comfortable, possibly cos they are a bit big for me but the jury is still out.

I reckon the fact that they are shorter is a plus. You won't look like a numpty when you wear shorts or swim shorts either. They are cooler too :)

In fact you should buy them ASAP before they go up in price, I reckon they will be closer to the £100 mark before the end of the year.

Thanks to all of you for your feedback, especially BenBlyth with his description of his todger looking like a dwarfs thumb sticking out of a bush! I liked that one and I completely know where he is coming from.

The Shutt's sound great so I am going to order some and I will leave feedback on this forum once I have done some miles in them.

    Thanks again,

Yeah they're very good value at 30 quid. I can't think of better ones for that little amount of money ....

isn't there a discount code at shutt atm for all products? tdf15 or something? its mentioned on a thread on here somewhere
"Unfortunately these days a lot of people don’t understand the real quality of a bike" Ernesto Colnago
  • I've just received my standard £29 pair of Shutt bib shorts - have to say the quality is very good as is the fit. I was a little concerned about the Sean yates look of the shorter leg but it's perfect for me (I'm 6ft 2in) - just about an inch or so above the knee when stood.

I had a little wait but Simon emailed to explain the issue and was kind enough to provide a discount code for future purchases - so great customer service as well.

Anyway - the point I was going to make was that Shutt also confirmed that ...

"We are pleased to note that both the quality of the lycra and pad is much improved and they come some where between the originals standards and our current pros"

    and just for clarity ...

"The stitching colour does vary slightly from the original stock photo on the site and is in contrasting white and red as opposed to the white and grey."

I can't comment on the improvements as I hadn't seen the original design but based on the positive reviews the originals got I would imagine this new design will get even raver reviews. I also like the red stiching !

    Hope that helps ...

I have the standard shorts and the difference is really the pad - its just a good bit thinner than something like my Assos Mille. The fabric is really soft and lightweight which is noce and they make a great summer short distance short for me. They are about 1" or so shorter in the leg but thats not really an issue for me.

Sadly I havent tried the Pro versions yet but have only seen them. I do need a 2nd pair of good bibs and the Pro's will be those sometime in the future when I'm a bit more flush!

    Hi All

Well, I bought some Shutt VR Pro Bib Coolmax shorts and here are my findings....

I received the shorts a day or two after ordering them and went out on a 30 mile ride. I have to say that I had quite a lot of discomfort in the groin area, between the top of my left leg and my scrotum (sorry for the detail). I followed this ride with a 40 miler and then another 30 miler and I had the same discomfort on both these rides also. I must admit that I was both surprised and disappointed about this especially after reading some great reviews about these shorts.

After some thought on what I should do, I decided to contact Shutt VR as I had heard good things about their customer service. I got a very quick reply to my email from a pleasant lady called Jessica who said that I should post the shorts back to them and they would check that there was nothing wrong with them. I did this and a few days later I emailed Jessica to see how thing s were going and she informed me that a new pair of shorts had just been posted to me and that these shorts had a new insert in them. She also said “give these new shorts a try and if I am not happy with them then I can have a full refund”. Well, I don’t think you could ask for better than that could you! What excellent customer service! Top notch!

The new shorts arrived the next day and what a difference the new insert has made. I have done a couple of 70 odd mile rides in them without any problems at all. They are very comfortable and a LOT cheaper than Assos. Don’t get wrong, I am a big fan of Assos but the Shutt VR shorts are a very good alternative at a competitive price. Plus it’s a rare opportunity to buy a good, well made British product .

Well done Shutt VR and thanks again for the excellent customer service.

    My sentiments entirely...
I have the old (blue insert) Pro bibs, and thought they were very good. But just took delivery of the new Pro bibs... Much better again, I must say...

What a brilliant level of customer service. Long may it continue.

I know what shorts I will be buying next time.

I'm tempted to have a pair sent to the USA just because of the customer service they offer. Even if they don't fit it would be worthwhile to support a company like that. Having a live human or one who is not reading from a script answering customer calls is a rarity. Sounds like they put in quite a bit of effort to make a quality product.

With spring now springing :? I ordered a pair of these just now - just posting to say that the discount code mentioned above still works, so nearly £12 saved, which is nice! :D

Does anyone know if there's a difference in pad between the shutt vr standard and pro shorts and how these compare to assos pads?

I will only buy Shutt Pro shorts now for 2 reasons. Number 1, I find them very comfortable and number 2 the customer service they offer is the best of any company I have dealt with. Last summer I ordered 2 pairs of the £29 shorts to take on holiday, a couple of days before I was due to go the shorts had not arrived so I emailed Shutt. Pete got back to me straight away telling me they could not supply the £29 shorts in time but that he had couried a pair of the Pro shorts to me for my holiday and would send the £29 shorts when they were back in stock. I still find this astonishing as most companies just cancel your order, not mentioning any names (Evans Cycles).
  • Good to see they're still working hard. :P
