I'm looking to replace the 26" wheels on my Claud Butler Cape Wrath D24 with some disc braked 29ers.
I will be running 1" slicks at 100psi so the wheel needs to be fairly strong to cope with the rutted track i partially commute on but light for fast on road stuff. I would say I do 80 % of my riding on the road and that's where I want the performance.
I already run a 12/23 rear casette and 46 tooth chainset but like the MTB riding position
Budget is £200

I'd look at XT hubs built onto mavic open pro rims, with double butted spokes.0

I was looking at a set of the Fulcrum SL29's for £179. What's the benefit of having wheels built, surely that's more expensive?0

Not always - a builder like Merlin or CRC can often build you a wheel inc labour cheaper than you can get the individual parts. Quite often better built too, lighter, with easier to get spares.0

You can't fit 29er wheels on a 26er frameset :?0
-
You can, if the tyres are narrow and are running discs.0

Oh yes you can..... So which are the best for my budget0
