Buying a Helmet online

I have read through a lot of the posts on here with advice on buying helmets, and most of them seem to say - "go and try them on to see which is most comfortable".

However I am struggling to find anywhere nearby which even stocks the helmets I am looking for, never mind having my size in stock.

Helmets I am interested in are Giro - Hex & Xen and MET - Kaos, Velano & Terra.

The only one I have managed to find to try on is the Giro Hex at Halfords.

I was thinking about just ordering from chainreaction cycles as they have all of them in stock. Would it be easy enough to send back if it didn't fit properly?

However by doing it that way I will just have to pick one and go for it. Does anyone have any of the helmets I listed?

Thanks.

I have a Giro Hex in medium, its adjustable to fit various head sizes (within reason). There shouldn't be an issue sending items back its just the added hassle and may cost a few quid.
  • CRC are fine with returns/replacements.

    Hi mate,
choose what helmet you want then go to your lbs and try it on, doesn't have to be the same model just the same company, when you know what size you are then order it from CRC to save some cash, bit cheeky I know but I do this all the time, halfords is a good start.

So are all Giro and MET helmets sized the same through out the ranges?

Well I tried a few different models of MET's and they all seemed to compare size wise, with the added adjustment of the rear being tightened up, I found what I was looking for.

When I eventually bought my new HT my lbs actually threw in a 50 quid Met as part of the deal anyway.

    Cheers

Measure your head and order a Giro Xen. Best money i've spent for a long time.

I measured my head and ordered the appropriate size of a Met Chaos from CRC. Fits perfectly, is very comfortable and lightweight and was noticeably less expensive than from bricks and mortar retail outlets. I feel like I should support my local LBSes but it's hard to ignore the price differential.
