Hi, I have been offered a full ultegra groupset but I am not sure what it is worth. The seller says he has an offer in mind but he wont say and is insistent on sensible offers, however I have no idea. It is a full groupset to include: front mech; rear mech; brake callipers; chain set; chain; brake/gear levers; cables, cassette. It is 10 speed and he also has a set of mavic wheels, although I am unsure which ones. The groupset has only done 300-400 miles according to the seller.
How much should I offer?
Any help for a newbie as I have no idea :?

Ultegra is great quality kit, but you need to find out if it's compact or standard as this will affect the type of riding you intend to do (compact for hilly areas and standard if most your riding is flatter or smaller climbs).
300 miles is almost new and the 6700 version is around £600 brand new.
I'd offer £300 and see what he says. Is the Bottom Bracket included in the set as you need to make sure it's correct on the bike you're putting it on (Hollowtech 11 i think)

Also depends on what year / model - i.e. 6700 or older 6600 series identified by internal or external gear cables? Prices also vary considerably - depending on whether it came fitted to a bike or bought as a groupset. New they can be bought for £570, so I'd say half-that - less if its the older group.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Well a new Ultegra 6600 groupset can be put together for roughly the following (all prices can be sourced online or on eBay for parts):
Shifters - £130 with cables
Chainset 53/39 - £80 or so (compact will cost more I think), GB Cycles, Ribble, CRC
Brakeset - £50
Cassette - £40 - seen on eBay BIN price
Front Mech - £20 - seen on eBay BIN price
Rear Mech - £45 - seen on eBay BIN price
Chain - £20 - seen on eBay BIN price
So roughly £400 new - I wouldn't pay any more than £250 I think. I've bought a new Ultegra 6600 groupset off this forum for £250.
If he's quoting you new price figures, you can ignore the likes of £600 RRP0 -

Merlin Cycles currently have the 105 5700 for £425 and the 105 5600 for £370.
2nd hand I would offer maybe 290 and 250 depending on what one and how much was included.time flies like an arrow

Thanks everyone. Are there any other ways apart from the cables to determine whether its 6600 or 6700? It came on a bike he bought and has now sold the frame so got these bits left over, believe it comes with a bottom bracket but am not sure.0

Most Shimano parts are generally marked with identification numbers - typically with the middle ones designating the groupset.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Without me being flippent Paul, but if you don't know much about Ultegra do you really need it?
To some extent it's a mine field because Shimano keep changing the versions. as mentioned is it 6600 or 6700? Is it standard, compact or triple? How does the FD fit brazed? top or botton pull... etc? What's the crank lenghts..170...172...175?
Lots of questions only the experienced would be confident to answer.CAAD9

To be honest no I dont think I do need it, but it may have turned out to be a bargain. However I dont think it will be so im going to save my money and put it towards a complete new bike.0

Probably for the best. No point in getting it unless you know all the bits will fit your bike, and he may be being economical on the milage too. 300 miles ? somehow i doubt it.0
