How was the TdF broadcast in the 70s and early 80s?

I remember it on C4, but earlier?

I'm assuming in the 70s, it would not have been shown daily, as I seem to remember afternoon TV was somewhat limited. Was it left for Saturday afternoons, or was it not broadcast at all?

I think they had brief highlights on World of Sport on Saturday afternoon. I can't remember myself. Ask Dave_1, he's still in the 80s.

    :D

You're on a roll tonight Rich.

They used to show highlights on the World of Sport on Saturday afternoons. I remember seeing it once, but can't remember the detail.

It always started with a preview on World of Sport with Dickie Davies then they would
cut to phil liggett to get an update on the prologue (older cyclists on here might remember the guy before liggett started) ??? My 1st time :D was watching every saturday during july were we would get a whopping 15 mins coverage - So next time you diss eurosport think yourself lucky for a starved cycling fan who only got a snippet of coverage in the early 80s
