I've decided to upgrade my '98 Gt timberline as I've just got back into mountain biking. I want the bike to do a bit of everything from easy xc to black runs. Due to the local cyclescheme I have a limited choice as i can spend £1000 in local bike shops, so it looks like these are the fore runners:
Scott Spark 60 at £999 - last one gotta be quick
Claud Butler cape wrath 04 - any idea what this is like I can't find any reviews
Cube ltd team/race
Rockhopper sl expert
Giant X4
I can't use halfords, KHS have sold out and the Marin White and Orange crush I can't find local. Also I'd like a bike that is worth upgrading as I go on.

A giant X4? What model? I have a Trance and I love it, so if you mean a Trance X4 it's certainly worth considering, has great reviews and can do a bit of everything well.0

i saw it in the shop yesterday and it looks good but is it suitable for a weak legged unfit fella trying some xc?
My friend who is also getting a bike on the same scheme seemed to really like it0
