Spoke twang

Hello all

Had this problem for a while, but have noticed it more lately. I run a 105 wheelset, which, when breaking, commonly on a steep descent, seem to produce a twanging noise, as is someone is striking a spoke with their finger nail. The noise is induced more frequently by harder breaking and seems to come from the front wheel.

I only assume its the spokes, although it could be something else. Is this normal?

Thankyou, Phil

Not normal, probably a tension issue. Pop the wheel into a bikeshop that builds wheels and get them to check the tensions

The noise is probably an indication of spokes moving and lack of tension - as said, wheel sounds like it needs retensioning such that there isn't any spoke movement under load.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
