Which Tub glue?

I've recently purchased some carbon rims and tubular tyres but I'm unsure which tub glue I should use. It's probably a toss up between continental and vittoria mastik one. Can anyone offer me any advice.

I use the Continetal Carbon specific glue on my Zipps and i've never had any problems with it. Its clear as well so doesn't look as bad if you managed to get any on the sidewalls.

I have used both the Continental and Vittoria tub glue though and both seem to do the job well :)

I read on here a while back that you should use Conti glue with Conti tyres, same with Vittoria, so I use Vittoria tub cement on my Zipps!...

Some people, myself included, use Tufo tape. I'll never use another tube of the regular glue again. Hope that explains my view.
Many of the track racers around here use some sort of 3M glue on their wheels and it's so strong that you ruin the tires getting them off. Not for road use.

I use Vredestein's and as far as I am aware Vredestein do not currently do a tub glue, which is why I use the continental stuff.

I have never heard that you need to use the same brand tub glue as the tyres before. I think it is more down to personal preference, and the fact that many shops will stock either Vittoria or Continental for example and so are likely to only have tub glue by the same manufacturer.

What would you do if you were running Zipp Tangente tyres.. as Zipp don't make tub glue! :P

I have noticed that Tufo tape tends to "oooze", for lack of a better word, at the edges.
This seems to happen on a continual basis throughout it's life on the rim. Not a big deal and easily cleaned but I was curious if this Jantex tape did the same thing???? Haven't seen Jantex here in the States.

Conti glue - stuff that comes in orange tins/tubes. I find using the tubes is better as I can run the tip of the tube down the centre of the rim and then spread the glue as requried from there. Using the tin means I end up with a much messier and more time-consuming job. Probably works out more expensive but I don't glue that many tubs so not a big deal.

No it doesn't. Seems to be great!

    hey,

have got some tubs and glued them on with continental tub glue and they're working great..was just wondering if tubs need regluing at regular intervals? Should I remove the tyre and reglue every month/ end of the season?? dont really want it peeling off in the middle of a crit!!

    Any advice would be great.

Tub tape is much easier to use. I used to use it on the track as well without any problems.

How about Dunlop? I've still got a couple of tins somewhere. Good for TTing and everyday use (I used it on my touring bike with sprints) not supersticky but I never had a tub roll off.

    3M stuff :

I've had tubs glued on for yonks and they are still stuck fast.
Thing to do is to check them regularly, see if they can be pulled off the rim. Well glued tub should not require regluing regularly but no harm in checking.
Racing crits and the like then you would probably want to be particulary sure they are well stuck.

Here#s my take on tub tape/glue, I've done a lot of reading on this site www.biketechreview.com and I've used continental glue and jantex tape.

So, for race wheels where I'll probably not have to change the tub on the fly I use glue(continental) and I use a lot of it. I glued mine on about two years ago and have had no problems. If I read it correctly on that site, the longer the glue is on there the better as the glue hardens and then there's less rolling resistance (rr). I don't use Jantex 'cause according to that site it has a higher rr, probably because it's not as sticky and the tyre will squirm around a bit.

For training wheels where I'm not so interested in rr, I'll use Jantex tape as it's so much easier.

I've not used tufo, but like it's tyres I feel it offers the worst of all worlds. It's like glue in that it makes the tyres a pain to get off. It's like tape in that it has 'poor' rr properties.
