Looes Cornwall - Clubs and Routes

Can anyone recommend road clubs (who are happy for non-members to tag along) or road training routes around Looes in Cornwall? I'm going for a week's holiday with the bike and would like to get a couple of sessions in. 30 miles or more, hills would be good but not necessary.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Sounds like pootling territory then? I'm willing to travel to a club (have car) if anyone knows of one within reasonable driving time, say up to 1 hour away.0 -
If looking for a club, expect you're going to have to head towards Plymouth or St Austell - look on British Cycling website for details.
I stay near Looe regularly and have ridden lots in the area - the narrow lanes make it less suited to group rides, they're narrow and steep. A couple of good routes are:
Looe head east to Rame Head along the coast road and back. Great sunset ride.
Looe - West Looe - Port Looe - Talland Bay - Crumplehorn - Polperro - Raphael - Lansallos - Lantic Bay - Polruan - back up hill - bear left to Pont - Bodinnick - Lanteglos - Lanreath - Penadlake - Churchbridge - Duloe - Tregarlandbridge - Looe
Take your climbing gears! My favorite road is from Polperro up Talland Hill - it climbs at excess of 25% for about a mileMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0 -
Cornwall CTC does rides from Liskeard fortnightly and Launceston weekly on Sundays.

Hey Monty Dog,
Thanks for the suggestions. I went on the Looe-Polruan route you suggested. I used bikeroutetoaster (http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=155255) and it came up with a route that was mostly on very quiet, single track roads. Whilst not great for training, I was in no shape for a decent workout anyway with too many late nights and Cornish pasties in the previous two weeks. I had a really good 2-3 hours by myself and enjoyed the scenery. And you are absolutely right about climbing gears, managed most hills in 39x25 but had to bail out a couple of times in the granny.
Bit of a monster climb out of Looe that I wasn't expecting so early, that got me in the red zone early. I do need to check the profiles before I head out.
Thanks again.0 -
Glad you enjoyed the route! I'll be going down in September for 10 days and taking the bike - I'm off to Italy straight after to ride L'eroica so it will be good practise! As you say, there's few good, faster 'training routes' but plenty of quiet roads - I'd much prefer grinding my way up a 20-percenter than being side-swiped by a caravan - the ride out to Rame Head is a bit quicker - but wind direction makes a big difference.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Come out of looe towards plymouth then head out on the Torpoint Ferry route, motorcyclists love it as well.

I live in Saltash so do these routes a fair bit, but the Torpoint road is particularly good fun, elevation but at speed.
The Corinthians meet at the Elburton Hotel on a Sunday morning at 9am

I havent tried the Corinthians or Yogis, but because of my working hours I would go for the Corinthians purely because they meet on a Sunday when I am normally off. I am hopeing to join one but still havent decided, the Yogis went on a route through Saltash today but I was working. So at the moment use Map my GPS to map routes then go out with mates.Sirrus Comp 2010 (commuting)

Hi, anyone can come along and try the Yogis
The Saturday Rides are the best place to start as they are very social affairs. There is a Sunday Ride too but this tends to be less well supported but we are hoping to develop these too
We also have a very active social scene in addition to lots of weekly rides. Check website for weekly updates.0
