Hi,

I have just been offered a great deal on a new EX8 from my LBS, however its still more than i realistically wanted to part with. He also offered me the same discount on the EX 6. Now my question is, is the better spec on the EX8 worth spending the extra cash (£240) or would getting the EX 6 and upgrading parts myself be more cost effective?? After all its a lot of money to spend on a bike, all be it bike of the year.....

Thanks for you help in advance.

Upgrading yourself is almost never cost effective. I would say the EX8 was worth the extra.
  • Hi

Well i've got last year's EX8 and after 12month i've upgraded the Brakes to Hope M4's and done the rear gear system ie cassette, deraileur and both shifter's to Sram X0

So personnaly i'd save the money and get the EX6 and upgrade

Get the EX8, your EX6 will still be a ex6 just with upgrades.
Both are great bikes, so you decide.

I have got a Trek EX8 2009 bike, this bike is amazing, the spec is pretty good too!

Go for the EX8, you will not regret it!

depends on what year ex 6 - if its last years then ex8 all the way as they have a lighter linkage

in that case not a huge difference in the frame itself (the ex8 has a posh-er shock) but, the ex8 is atleast - £360 worth of kit between them, however if possiable ride both of them and see if you can tell the difference.

I would go for the 8, the spec list is pretty good and the shock (which is meant to be excellent) is not available aftermarket.

If you can afford it definately go for the EX 8. Compared to the EX6, You get a better fork, latest frameset with E2 headtube, Magnesium EVO link, DRCV shock, Bontrager rhythm comp wheel set, Avid Elixir 5 brakes. No comparison unless your budget won't run to it.
