A82

Right folks, looking for advice. How dodgy would riding the a82 be? my mate is trying to rope me into a charity type thing which as part of it involves cycling from Glasgow to Fort William, is this suicide or is it not bad to ride on?

Been on that road in a car and was scared enough :D

Wouldnt say its too dodgy really there are a few sections that are quite narrow and busy such as top part of Loch Lomond from Tarbet to Tyndrum and the section from Corran ferry to Fort William can be busy with those tourist buses. But the sections through Glen Coe and Rannoch Moor are quite spectacular if a little blustery at times, cycle toured up this way loads of times and enjoyed it.
Gasping - but somehow still alive !
  • cheers much amigo, pretty much what I expected and wanted to hear :D

The worst section is Fort Augustus to Inverness and you'll be missing that...

Did most of this a few weeks ago. I avoided Saturday and Sunday afternoons, they are the real busy times, with a load of caravans, campers and buses. It is spectacular and a lovely route. Though I would recomend avoiding the Loch Lomondside road. Better option is the road to Calander, then up to Crianlarich via Glen Ogle. You can also avoid the Corran to Ft William secion by crossing the Corran Ferry and taking the road on the other side of Loch Lhinne, though it will add a few miles, it is extremely quiet and great views.
