As I tend to ride fixed and SS road bikes and fancy a go at cyclo cross racing this autumn, does anyone know whether folks compete in local races on SS 'cross bikes? Or is SS cross a nice idea but actually an exercise in mud and crud frustration and being lapped by the field?

If there are SS racers out there does anyone have any thoughts on a bike please; the Genesis Day One seems a cheap and cheerful bike for the money that could last a season or two. Many thanks

I'm going to try it this year - just for the hell of it, just don't expect to be keeping up with the field! It also depends on the course and conditions - a really muddy course might make it a bit more even.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

unless it's a flat course you wont keep up, you need to choose your gear carefully.

I run fixed gear cx all winter for simplicity coaching on the towpaths, and don't have a problem with it really.

Its definitely worth a try and could give you the edge on certain courses. Hills are actually your friend if you're running them and you're a good runner. Get the best tyres you can afford to give you the best traction. Enjoy. I do. Oh, and I have recently bought a Day One Cross and I think it is excellent.

Done a few CX races and don't recall seeing anyone SS
    Also ride MTB SS rigid
But not sure I'd fancy a CX race SS
Good luck if you give it a go
