Riding an organised route

Hey all

Whats the protocol on an organized (say sportive) ride if the fellow you ride with has a mechanical or puncture. Do you stop and help and delay your riding time or carry on and let him make his own repairs. Lost 40 minutes last weekend as the other guy had 4 pinch flats riding like a daft lad.

Do tell

I'd say it depends entirely on you and your mate.

If you want to press on and he's slower/having problems and agrees then fine - crack on.

I personally am very uncomfortable about leaving someone - consequently I tend to ride with mates who ride at a similar speed and we agree beforehand about punctures/mechanicals, meeting stops etc.

well, heres the story (he doesn't use BikeRadar).

He went with the first pack. We had agreed to ride together. He was doing well, so i had no reservations and was off leading pace (i was only 19mph!).
came across him with a double pinch flat. gave him my inner tube (he only had one) and later after two more flat i had given him my patches too (one remained).

each time he rode ahead of my then 17mph average and left me. got really annoyed in the end and wished i ridden ahead from the start. i could have broken down and he'd never have known and being ahead he 'd not have been able to help, as i was by then without equipment for a puncture fix.

bad eh? crap team mate.... time to choose another. made us both late and me feel like a mug for helping followed by him taking off ahead after i ran out of repair stuff giving it to him!

You did the honourable thing helping him both times, But for me the second time you came across his broken down Ass, id have given him the supplies and headed into the sunset.

Sounds like he wasnt respecting the "Bro code" unless it suited his puntured needs!

If i went out with someone who was riding ' like a daft lad' he would be a 'daft lad' riding alone, punctures or not.

Just tell him to stick more air in his tyres next time.

What you did was kind and friendly. (What riding mates are for)

    What he did was rude.

I suggest you either tell him that he should be a bit more respectful of other riders if he ever wants any help again, or just vote with your feet and leave the guy to his own devices.
