Hi all,
Have been reading this forum for a couple of weeks as I've been out of biking for a couple of years well since my son broke my bike and wouldn't help pay to repair it so it has sat in the shed since. Any way having repaired the bike a new £8.99 rear derailer and it was on the go with only one spoke missing. Cleaned the wifes bike up and replaced the perished tyres and we were off. By christ we didn't realise how unfit we were with me having gained a good 3 stone, if not more as the old scales managed to weigh us a considerable bit lighter than the replacement set which brought me in at 18 st 6, since taking a desk job over 3 years ago.
Anyway to cut a long story short having got the freewheel tool and 6 spokes from the LBS the rear wheel finally sucomed to old age , the bike was 13 years old and must have weighed 2 ton as if was an oversized steel framed Townsend. A trip to the LBS to buy a complete set spokes resulted in a new Merida for the wife. Having built the wheel I found that the steer tube was bent and the crank kept working loose so one week later I was the proud owner of a Cube Acid. What a difference and we are both enjoying our weekend trips of 4 hours or so, with a mid week ride of about an hour.
Sorry bit of an epic for a first post but there you go.

Hi sophsoph,
I'm fine and getting fitter , we are now looking at how to extend the ride for another hour or so.
