Forks swapped.. issues arise....

After very little deliberation, I bought a 2nd hand pair of RS Rev race u-turn to replace my Marzocchi Z1s. Had a nightmare with the crown race removal but once I'd got it off I thought I would be swapped over in no time and on my way (The Z1s are 20mm bolt and the Revs are Maxle lite.)

When I went to put the front wheel back on, I found that the hub doesn't actually fit in the Revs

I checked the lowers on the Revs against the Z1s and there is an obvious difference in width.

Is it simply that I must buy a new hub and get the wheel rebuilt?

I reattached the front brake, and checked to see if the rotor (203mm) would fit, but it seems like the rotor won't fit using the same mount as was used on the Z1s.

I checked the FAQs but it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Any Ideas what mount I would need to make this work?

first. you need the correct brake adaptor.

remove the brake and the hub should fit.

but can you get a clear mange of the end of the hub 20mm adaptor as that may be the problem.

Nicklouse - Any idea where I can find what adaptor I need for the brakes? (juicy 5s)

This is the best image I have of the hub as I can't seem to get pics to uplad on pinkbike at the moment

I detached the brake calliper and tried to put the wheel on, but it won't fit the forks due to the hexagonal hub as per the pic. Will I need to replace the hub completely?

thanks for your help, its much appreciated

I have come across this problem before on some hubs where the connecting face on the hub is a tad too wide for the RS forks.

tap the ends off and get them machined down.

    like

the ones here can have issues

see the end is different to
    normal_IMG_1573.JPG
    which can fit fine.

re the adaptor see here http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12567315
the upper image is a standard IS mount with 5mm spacers as needed for the Marz 20mm fork while the middle is the 20mm adaptor that is used without the 5mm spacers.

if you have the lower you will need to get a standard IS mount for the disc size you have.

    hope that clears some things.

The mount is an Avid 203mm QR20, so if I swap it for one of these it should work?

With the hub, even if I machine the end so that it fits in the forks it still won't slot in as its hexagonal and the fork lowers have a groove cut out which stops them from fitting in line for the maxle to slide through. Any alternative?

it will as you will make it round. what is the make of the hub? and you could always take a file to the fork.

yes that adaptor will work fine for the brake.

From the Orange website all it says for the front hub is "KK20" and it seems as though this hub is specced especially for the Marzocchi 20mm bolt through forks. I hope the Revs are worth all the hassle when I get round to actually using them!

nope it is not speced for the Marz fork it is just that the RS forks can have less space around the axle.
