Ok yesterday me and my friend completed our first 100 miler started in ruthin finished in ruthin but we did some serious hills on the way round our selected route and at the 80 mile point we hit the biggest hill I have ever cycled up to this day called horse shoe pass in llangollen I believe its 1367ft climb and at one point you hit a 20% gradiant for 300 meters.
We completed it and the whole day was great had strong head wind all day more up hills than down great roads hardly any traffic and we held an average of 16.1 mph. is this anygood. Knowing how we felt at the end of the ride I do believe we could have betterd that average but we are doing it again next week so I will update.
Thanks

Good for you Gareth and well done on your 1st 100miler. Average speed is good and the horse shoe pass is a hard climb to finish with(bet your legs were protesting). You could eaily hold your own in the big hilly sportives and get a good time with average speed like that.Brian B.0

Thats great to know thanks, and with no disrespect to my riding partner, when we got to the pass I felt I could have picked it up on the hill I felt really good but i think my diet that day had been better than his so it hit him harder which kept me at his pace and not my own.
I don't really know to much about sportives is their a link to any so I could read up on them
thanks.0 -

Nice one, Horseshoe Pass is one of my favourite climbs, not particularly hard but just love the way curves round the mountain ahead of you and the view back across the valley is impressive.0

It was hard at the 80 mile point, run out of water just past the little pub at the start didn't want to stop though until the top wish I had because with the heat and muscles burning at that that point made it feel much steeper.
I like the right bend where it becomes really steep and practically forces you out your seat ha.0 -

Well done on that, sounds like you're a bit ahead of me, I have only done 50 miles before today and managed to do 62 miles with an average of 16.6mph. No big hills though just short climbs and drops.
Hopefully one day I will manage 100 miles as you have managed, again well done.0 -
