I know there are threads on this but everywhere I've looked lately seem to only supply wheels for Tubs not Clinchers.

Wheelsmith are busy til the end of June - eBay has nothing - Zipp are too expensive.

I've just bought a Colnago and put my existing carbon clinchers on that - now I need a replacement pair for my Bianchi.

I have £500 to spend - can anyone help ?

£500 should be more than enough. Check your PMs in a sec...

Merlins got Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL's for £650 at the moment, little bit beyond your budget but I was persuaded!!

fuerte bici are having supply problems. I ordered some wheels 10 weeks ago and not a sausage.

Thanks all - Well on the way now.

BTW Crimmey, spoke to Ben at Fuerte today, he says 10-15 days worse case.

Sounds like a nice bloke. I'd give him a chase.

I ordered 3 pairs of the fuerte bici 50mm clinchers 3 months ago. The 2 black hub sets came after 8 weeks and the white hub set arrived last week! Aside from the delay, they're well worth the wait and an absolute bargain. We also got a good discount on 3 pairs.

3 months is an awfully long time though. I was given an expectation of 10-15 days which is why I placed the order. Had I been told 12 weeks I'd have gone elsewhere.

I've prodded them again today to see what happens. I really need them for mid-July.

Thanks for the response though, at least I know they haven't gone bust !!

    Sorry to hijak the thread,

Im racing this weekend and so is my girlfriend so i cant use our 50mm planet x wheels.
I was going to buy some more cheaper 50mm carbons but clinchers this time, would i be better spending £600 on light set of aluminium instead?
I've never ridden super light wheels so not sure of their benifit over 50mm rims?

Zipps are dear but I just got some from Wheelbase on 0% finance..£30 a month. That's what tempted me.

Well - credit where its due - Just had my wheels delivered from Fuerte Bici. I've only had time to look in the box but everything is there, and they look excellent.

£464 delivered is an excellent price for a pair of 50mm Carbon Clinchers so I'm a happy boy.

I can therefore happily recommend Fuerte Bici

How long did they take to arrive? Im undecided on Fuerte Bici, Wheelsmith or stretching the budget maybe to Token or an ebay bargain....

I got some Cosmic Cabone SLs a couple of months back, which I like.

Seen Quest do 50mm carbon clinchers (with alloy braking surface). I think they're around £500.

Can you recommend them once you've fitted them to your bike and ridden them please :)

Yeah, let us know what the clinchers are like. I bought the 88mm tubs and love 'em to bits. Rear hub very noisy but bearings feel great. I've been commuting on them every day so need to force myself to take them off as they are only for ttin' really. Never had tubs before. 160psi and they feel so much nicer than clinchers at 110psi.
I'm looking at the 60mm clinchers for convenience. Shipley how were your valve extenders and what type? as I had to sand the hole down a little. Tyre easy to fit? and take off?

I'm building them at the weekend. I've only got as far as fitting the rim tape at the moment.

I bought tubes with 80mm valves so shouldn't needed extenders - I don't really like extenders and have got away without them on my other set of carbon clinchers.

The other set are very similar, have the same tubes and are shod with Schwalbe Stelvios and they have been great.

I'll update after I've taken them for a run (I have a 90 mile run next week) but expect them to be similar.
