Focus Mares Comp torques (seat post)

Hi all,
Not sure whether this is the right section, but there wasn;t one I could see for Cyclo Cross! I have just bought and received a Focus Mares Comp. I am really pleased with it, but just wanted to check if anyone knows the correct torque for the seatpost as when I looked in the manual it seems to say14 nm but when I tighen it to this, the clamp around the seatpost is virtually joined rom one side to the other (just the part where the screw goes through not the bit closest to the seatpost). Please could somebody advise me firstly if this is ok and secondly if anyone knows whether 14 nm is correct. Thanks,
Matt.

I would agree with Jim Langley and the Park Tools advice he quotes:
http://jimlangley.blogspot.com/2009/03/ ... reaky.html
According to Park:
"Seat posts require only minimal tightening to not slip downward. Avoid over tightening."

Their reference to Campagnolo figures of 36 - 60 lb-in would be approx 4 Nm to 6.77 Nm.
I would put way the torque wrench and use the "just enough to stop it slipping" approach.0 -
14Nm sounds way too high to me. It may be a typo.
Hope you've not crunched the frame :?
4-6Nm as Weejie54 says seems correct.
Another way to feel for it that I use is not much harder than opening a door handle using a standard allen key..assuming you don't have stiff door handles that is.
I then mark the level with some tape around the seatpost just above the clamp, so I can see quickly if it's moved or not when out riding.Mike B

Thanks guys I agree with your advice. The frame seems ok, but a bit chipped. I have never used a torque wrench before so had no idea 14 would be too high. I am going to take this up with Wiggle, as I only received the bike on Friday!0
