front derailer adjustment

I'm having a few gear selection problems, in the middle ring on the front in certain gears the chain is rubbing on the derailer and when trying to change from the big ring to the middle ring it doesn't always want to go. basically the derailer is too far to the right.
which of the two screws do i need to adjust and which way?
probably an easy job but i usually make it worse when it comes to derailers!

This problem is nothing to do with the screws; the cable is probably too tight. Back it off a bit. The screws are just limits to prevent the chain from coming off. One screw prevents the cage from going too far past the outer ring when changing up; the other stops it going too far past the small ring when changing down.
