Guys and gals,
My boss has an extensive itunes library and until about 3 weeks ago had it on a windows based pc. I backed it all up onto a portable HDD. Anyway, he has now gone and bought an all singing all dancing iMac.
Dilemma is, when i plug in the portable HDD to the new iMac, the iMac does not recognise it. It also asks if i wish to format the HDD, which i don't as i aill lose his library.
Is there anything i can do to convert the files so they are iMac compliant?
Any advice would be much appreciated. i am not upto speed with Macs to be honest
Thanks in advance

Is it something to do with NTFS/FAT-32? I used something called SwissKnife to create a NTFS partition on a FAT32 external HD for storing large files on.
You could create a partition in whichever format the rest of the disk isn't in and then copy the music over to that.0 -
Bails
so if i plug the usb hard drive in, install swiss knife, take a segment of the portable HDD and partition it in a format readable by iMacs and copy the data across this should work>

If you have a windows pc just transfer the files from the flash drive to it, reformat the flash drive to Fat-32 and transfer the data back to the flash drive.
Then drag and drop to your mac.0 -
Sell the Mac and get a tidy new Pc done0

the portable one is 250gb, thats not the problem. the minute i open swiss knife and try to partition part of the HDD, it throws up an error and wants to shut the application down. i am guessing this might be the pc issus as the one i am using is prehistoric
might try it at home on my laptop, cos i could then acquire some of his library for "personal" consumption
none of the above is helped by the fact i have a blinding headache after having a couple of jars lastnight.
I am officially a pussy when it comes to drinking also. i had 4 pints and 2 bottles of stella and i am dying today. I am ashamed.
Going to stand in the corner now!bails87 wrote:How big is the hard drive? Could you split it in half and make one half FAT32 and one half NTFS?2009 Trek 3900 disc https://www.flickr.com/photos/125245570 ... 613755884/

Are the machines networked? If so, could do a file transfer.0
