Thigh Pain

I am off to the doc but I am impatient to know if anyone has had anything like this.

I have had a slight niggle in my thigh over the past two weeks. I've kept on riding as usual (about 100 miles a week) but two days ago I have started to get spasms in the muscle off the bike. They last for a few secs (bloomin hurts) then go (I usually gently pummel the muscle!) - there's no apparent trigger - they've even happened in the night.

Anyone had this? Had did you get on? I really don't want to be off the bike :(

Googling around there seems to be 'benign spasms' and other spasms - mean-I-am-gonna-spoil-your-cycling-take-me-serious spasms.

I think I have strained the muscle in my quad. Will see what the doc says.

Could be your IT band (nothing to do with musical computers :D ) - one of the other guys on the road forums has it and has had to stop cycling for a while.

lol an IT Band - would that be Kraftwork?! No I know what you mean. Its definitely a quad muscle - the one on the outside that is giving me jip - but thanks for the idea to consider.

IT band is more on the side, down towards the knee, thats what stopped me running.

Honestly I am not sure - its pocket depth down and two inches to the front from a trouser seam. Tender.

What happened with you danowat and your treatment?

    Easy to fix!
Simply borrow Mrs Macondo01's battery operated marital aid and slip it into your pocket. Simply switch it on whenever you need a little relief in the area. I'm sure no-one would stare.

Genius - but I fear the hum might attract attention http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/cancellara-rubbishes-motorised-bike-claims-26393

Had a number of weeks at a physio (at £35 a pop, one of the reasons I couldn't continue for long, it was killing my wallet) with massage, manipulation, stretching and some ultrasound (which I think is shite), didn't make a lot of difference, knee still locked up after a mile, so I decided to have a long(er) hiatus from running and cycle instead.

Did a bit of foam roller work too, which helped a bit, but still didn't "cure" it

TBH, I enjoy cycling more anyway.

Yours sounds like a muscle tear or strain, I'd give it a bit of R.I.C.E. for a week or so

I am no expert and I would avdise that you go with either your Doctor or physio although it does sound like you need to do some stretching and foam roller work.

Do a search on "Hip Flexor" stretches as well as these are generally overlooked and will affect the tightness in your thigh.

Thanks guys - I'll try these suggestions. Happily had a better day and night (whoa Skydog) with the leg.
