Hi everyone,

I have decided that my next upgrade for the spark is going to be a new set of wheels, and would just like some peoples advice and thoughts on what to go for as there is so much choice out there. :?

my current wheels are Alexrims XC44 with a shimano rear hub and scott front hub, so obviously i would want my new wheels to be better than what i already have.

As for my style of riding i don't do anything extreme, i like to keep both wheels on the ground

I went into my local LBS today where they have some Mavic crossrides which the man said would be ideal for me, just thought i'd ask here first.

Also had some DT Swiss wheels on Hope hubs (which looked very nice) for around £300. The Mavics were £180.

Thanks for any help and info, Andy :)

I din't think the Mavics will be any lighter than what you have. If you want to save some weight than you are looking at the more expensive ones.

would the mavics still be a good "upgrade" as in better hubs, better quality wheel build etc. Any suggestions of the kind of wheels i should be looking at for my style of bike and riding, there's so much choice i don't know where to start.

Can't speak for anything else but the hubs are really good on the Mavic CRs. Smooth as day one and upwards of 4k....

They are built well but like SS says there are lighter ones out there just you pay the price. For £120 CRs make a great choice if you want a factory set.

I would spunk the extra £120 and take the DT/Hope combo...
Rutland and Wynstanleys would be a bit cheaper...

Get the six bolt adapters too as these are at least £20 for a pair any where else and it costs no more... weird...

IMO the crossrides are a step sideways rather than a step up and the Merlin price is each ..Hope and DT..a yummy combo and better value at £269 the pair from Rutland

Shimano MT-65 at £185 / pair from Merlin. Genuine 1800grams and very very solid.
