Cheers in advance,

There is no difference apart from the colour

I thought so. But why does it state '11 speed only'?? on the S Record cups? Is it purely marketing??

Hi there, if you are asking whether there is a difference between Record 11 and Super Record 11 then yes there is a difference. The Super Record chainset has the ceramic 'cult' bearings but the Record 11 does not. The Record 11 cups have rubber seals where the SR cups do not. I know this because I have both Record and Super Record and when i was building my Look 595 with Record 11 I was going to use the SR cups as i thought the colour would be better, i was advised not to so reverted to the normal one's

    Hi Beetle1,

Interesting. so when you say rubber seals, where are these exactly on the BB cups?? do you mean the spring type washer on the non drive side?? That seems to be the only 'seal'?? And what was the reason for you being not advised to use SRs??

I ask this because I recently bought two sets, one for Record and one for Centaur both 10 speed. The retailer sent me Super Record cups as they were out of stock of Record and told me there was no difference... Now having built up both bikes I occasionally get a 'crack' from the BB say a couple of times each ride 40miles or so..... And it just makes me think are the cups different? I was thinking more are the S Record Ceramic bearings a slightly different shape so the inside of the cup is a different shape??

    Thanks,
    Lig.
  • The super record cups do not have a rubber seal on them as it's not required for CULT bearings. For Record or below you really need to fit the record cups as it stops the grease in the bearings getting contaminated/washing away.

The cups are otherwise the same apart from the seals and colour. Some people have taken to removing the seal on Record cups to use with SR as they prefer the colour.

Campag bearings only have one seal which is on the outside, the seal on the cups is to seal from the inside to the outside.

OK, so nothing actually butts up against these seals? This is just so the axel passes through the rubber seals to stop water getting through from the inside out??!! Looks like a good idea, why not have this on S Record cups aswell???? Surely it would do no harm???

It adds drag which defys the reason Super Record has ceramic bearings in the first place.
Ceramic bearings are so hard they dont need seals of grease
