A good upgrade would be to chuck it in the skip and buy a real bike

PS, Might be worth trying the commuting sectiom or mountain bike section :)

You`re right they`re not knobblies, he needs his eyes testing.

If you are happy with it then don't worry however the point is around why spend money upgrading on a heavy frame which ultimately you will not get the "major" gains you may be hoping for.

Lighter wheels and smoother tyres will roll faster on the road and will help with your road riding experience. Changing the groupset is an expensive option and tbh you will actually be better off financially in binning the bike and putting the cash straight toward a lighter and better specced machine in the first place.

Decent wheelset will cost at least £200+ , Better gears upward of £300.....

£500 on a second hand, low usage road bike would get you something costing over £1000 new and would be lighter and specced with at least Shimano 105 groupset without the hassle.

Just bought my wife a Kona Lisa RD road bike off Ebay. Only 9 months old, ridden once (and condition it arrived in supports that) cost £1200 new to the seller and I paid £500. Aluminium frame with carbon forks and Shimano 105 and Ultegra groupset. Came with Mavic Krysium wheelset and weighs just under 9kg.

So "bin it" may seem harsh but there is good will behind the comment as it would likely be cheaper to buy something else versus the cost of upgrades which although will improve your ride it will not match what you could get for the same expenditure.
