Hey Guys n Gurls!

looking to get a full suss for the summer.

I orginally had my heart set on a Giant Trance x3, around £1600 but now im more set on a Lappiere Zesty 214 (they are on sale for £1530) and it's a much nicer bike.

1) anyone got any advice on those two?
2) anyone suggest anything else?
3) I notice that bikes around this (including these two; do not have lock out rear shocks) how is that on long rides (i.e climbs around glentress.)

all the best and thanks in advance

Tony.

the best advice usually is to find a dealer and give them a go.

as far as lockouts go, you should hope not to need one to be honest, i have a lockout on a couple of my bikes but never bother to flick it over and always leave it in an open setting.

im a fan of specialized and have always enjoyed stumpjumpers. this year model is a completely different beast though. however, the fsr xc is a very similar bike to the last version of the stumpjumper and i would recommend having a look for one.

i have ridden a comp version of the fsr xc and it was very nice indeed, the fork was too soft for my big body. some folk dont like the x fusion shock but i would wager thats more to do with the name written on it as opposed to the performance. the pro version gets the same shock as on the lower stumpies (like mine)

    - As far as the rear shock goes, i'm new to it, I'm moving up from a HT.

I ride with a friend who has a Orange 5 Pro and he's always locking it on the up hill.

I was hoping you were gonna say it's fine! :D

Hi Tony I have just made that move also. My hardtail is a 09 XTC spent a few weeks trying new rides finally settled for the reign 2 for £1600 I to had my eye on lapeirre but was put off by a friend who's framed broke after about 2 months. And couldn't get on with orange and their single pivot. My biased opinion is get the giant.

I am the owner of Zesty. You don't really need pro pedal on it, if you really wanted to experiment with setting just adjust rebound level to different setting, that said, if you really stomp on pedals like an elephant. Pro pedal is allready set in factory to medium, at least on mine and surprisingly when climbing I don't even lock out fron forks 8) .

Giant are great bikes ... love those Trances, they look sexeh.

I did ride my riding buddies Spesh Enduro ... very similar suspension design, and it's very similar to the ride of Zesty. Many people rave about Maestro design of Giant though.
    What could have been (Video)

I'll choose not put too much stake into someone's opinion who is admittingly terrible though

    Thanks for the comments!

Im fairly smooth on the pedals so it sounds like from what you guys said I should be fine.

Seems the reign 2 is better spec'd? Fox forks & Raceface cranks, The Zesty 214 is SLX all over, RoxShox forks is that the case? I love the look of the zesty the giant doesnt do anything for me to be honest.

Im yet to ride either, Im going to test the zesty soon - I dont know anywhere up here that sells the reign hmm..

    Cheers

slx is very good kit, rockshox is easily as good as foxmore often than not.

however, as spec goes, i prefer the spec of the reign, by a million miles. i have ridden the maestro system as i have owned a trance x and a reign and think it is superb.

    Stumpjumper fsr comp?
Lighter than ex8 or trance x2 but has more travel.
