Carbon frame impact protection

Hi All
I have a fuel ex 9.8 and having had it about a month, I cleaned it yesterday but found a small chip which I believe goes just to the carbon but hasn't damaged it under the BB. I haven't had any spills or prangs on it so I would like se advice on impact protection. I have been told by my LBS that greenhouse repair tape is about the best. Any ideas or advice accepted
