Can anyone help ?

My rear brake has been sticking on. So I decided I would replace the cable. Easy job I hear you cry !

Its a nice evening so I had the bike out in the back garden. Unbolted the pinch bolt on the rear caliper. Popped the hood back, pulled the lever to expose the nipple on the cable, give the cable a little push from the back and out she pops as does the small ferrul that the cable runs through that the nipple engages with. I hear a ping as the ferrul pops loose and then I notice theres a couple of washers on the floor. I

Basically theres two white washers that sit in the end of the ferrul and then two little black washers that sit either side of the locating lugs in the lever. Its one of the black washers that I have lost. I tried to put it back together without the washer but it works itself loose.

I've had a quick google and I cant see anywhere that sells the washers seperately. So I have that sinking feeling its new lever time. Of course that means I could just upgrade the whole lot to Dura Ace at the same time :D

I'm going to pop the my LBS tomorrow and see if they can help me out.

If anybody knows anywhere I can purchase a new washer just in case they cant I'd be eternally grateful.

You need one of these by the sounds of your description.

The Shimano part number if you have a Shimano Service Centre or LBS with a Shimano account is Y-6BD 98110. Part number 10 from here.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Yes thats the part. But I have had a bit of a result. The washer that I thought pinged out into oblivion, actually didnt and I've found it lurking in the bottom of the lever and fished it out.

Thanks for the links though, much appreciated.

Confusingly (cos it don't look like no hook to me...) called a Cable Hook
