Cateye Strada Wired Computer

Got the above on my bike and generally it's fine but occassionallly it gives spurious speed readings and sometimes just shows 0mph. I have found that sometimes it's because the contacts from the base to the unit can be dirty but this still sometimes happens when they have been cleaned. I've also ensured the magnet and receivers are correctly aligned and spaced also the cable is not damaged and has not been pulled/pinched - so any ideas?
I've had it for about 8 months so not sure if it's something as simple as a new battery.
TIA

My wired strada cadence wad dropping readings a month or so ago. There was a bit of corrosion on one of the terminals. A bit of emery paper got rid of that and I've given them a little spray of gt85 for good measure. No problems since.
  • Try positioning the magnet nearer to the sensor. Is it passing parallel over the sensor line? A buckled wheel can move the magnet further away. Check there's no exposed nicks in the wires. Rusty contacts at the cpu cause it to malfunction. Have you tried short/reset?

You can buy replacement parts for £14

sounds like the terminals to me. Happens on all the wired computers I've had. Just clean them up.

The wires and contacts all look fine but I've given them another check and also cleaned the contacts good and proper so we'll see how it goes from there as it was acting up again today.

does it happen at the same point in your ride each time?
I had this with mine a while back, dropped speed recording for a few seconds - but kept time recording, always in the same point on my ride.
It went away after a couple of weeks.
Possibly some electromagnetic interference at that spot on my ride - that has now gone.

I have a friend with an old classic merc. gets problems with ignition every time she drives down a certain stretch of the A1. Everywhere else it is fine.

It's probably something to do with me now that I think about it as a lot of electrical goods do some strange things - especially mobile phones. I must just be weird!
