I'm looking to spend a grand on a full-sus and have read a recent review on the Giant Trance X4 giving it a great review - i've noticed the 2009 X4 is still available and looks a better spec for the same money. Has anyone ridden or read anything about the 2009 model or recommend which one to go for?

I just got a 2009 X5 for the father in law because It hought it was a better spec for the money than the 2010 X4. The 2009 X4 is definately a beter spec then the 2010 X4.

Pauls Cycles have both the 2009/2010 X4 for £950.00 and its a much better spec than the 2010 model.

    Better forks better shock, lighter.

Its also worth noting that the 2009 and 2010 frames are identical apart from the new colours.

If its a choice between the 2009 and the 2010 model the 2009 wins hands down.

I bought the 2009 Trance X4 from Pauls Cycles about 2 months ago and couldn't be more pleased. Superb bike for the money and much better speced than the 2010 X4 and is nearly 3lbs lighter (in fact its not far off the spec the 2010 X3 which costs 1600!).

A friend managed to pick up a 2009 X3s for £1099 reduced from nearly £1700.

I can't say too much about the handling as I've only had a quick blast but it is a nice ride, I was surprised at how little bob there is and that's from someone who's used to riding a hardtail.

As for the 2009 X4 you would not be able to buy the components for that price never mind the frame. If your going to get a 2009 model then I wouldn't wait around or they will be gone.

Saw the '09 X3 on a few web sites - tempting to spend a bit more and get the better spec. The '09 X4 looks a good bet and comes in nicely under 1k, just need to find out what frame size to go for. I'm 5'8", with a 29" inside leg. My last Giant HT was a 17", which felt about right - the Trance only comes in a 16" or 18"... so not sure what frame size to go for

Which is the better bike, disregarding the year,x3,x4,or x5 assending or dessending ?

Well giant use the same frame across the range so no difference there
then the only ups and downs are the add ons so you can only list these in yearly groups as the spec is relative to the price which fluctuates yearly. Example 09 x4 is on par with the 10 x3 however the 09 x3 was better than the 09 x4. All in all it comes down to what deal you can find giving you the best value for money. They all rock!!

Lower the number the better the spec. e.g. X5 lowest spec int he range - X0 highest spec

The fames are all the same (shocks are different on the lower spec bikes).
