Replacement Wheels - £200-£250 budget

A quick ask for some advice on a new pair of wheels.

I have a pair of Mavic CPX22 which some as standard for my Giant Defy 2, but i've had trouble keeping them straight. Only 500 miles in, they've been back to the shop twice, so i'm thinking about an upgrade.

I've taken a good look at the Mavic Kysrium Equipe and Fulcrum Racing 5, but a close friend of mine recommended hand built wheels.

Any suggestions appreciated, especially for something with some strength that will put up with the roads in Kent.
