The vast majority of the general public won't recognise one brand from the next, so you'll look a prat to them whatever you wear. Other roadies will suss out the Aldi shite so don't go there unless you are poor.

I think some of the Shutt VR jerseys look real cool as does a lot of the retro stuff. Wear what you like, but my feeling is if you feel good about yourself on the bike then you'll enjoy your ride more.

I often commute in baggies, but I find them too warm for longer rides. I'm happy mixing and matching and my kit doesn't match my bike....... bright orange Duff Beer top from Foska with black Assos or Endura shorts on a black, grey and white bike for instance. As long as you are comfortable in the saddle and like your top who cares?

Only if they are uncomfortable. Wear what you like.

We are not your mum. If you're old enough to ride a bike, you're old enough to dress yourself.
The above is a post in a forum on the Intertubes, and should be taken with the appropriate amount of seriousness.
  • Yeah don't get too hung up...at the end of the day, it's supposed to be fun.

Now, where are my rapha silk compression pj's

That's a really crap jersey - if we are trying to point out that nobody pays road tax, why would we want to perpetuate the myth that anyone does?

It would be much better/more accurate if the slogan was 'There's no such thing as road tax'.

That's just silly. Mind you, I think I will go out on my Look 585 wearing my Aldi jersey just to cause snobby roadies to get confused and crash!

I ony buy clothing that is relatively cheap/in sales as cycling stuff is extortiantely overpriced.

Means I look like a multi coloured twat. However anybody who thinks they dont look a little bit stupid in lycra is dellusional to begin with!

Wear whatever the hell you feel comfortable in.

I suggest you go to www.ipayroadtax.com and actually read what the campaign is about before jumping to conclusions as you have totally missed the point
The site name is deliberate; ironic even. “I pay road tax, you don’t,” is an insult sometimes thrown at cyclists by motorists, a barb that says cyclists don’t pay for the roads so shouldn’t be on the roads. At best, some motorists would grant us the gutter, a sliver of road-space, but heaven forfend should we ride in the middle of the lane, blocking motorised traffic. Some say cyclists should stick to cycle-paths, roadside facilities paid for by motorists by this mythical road tax.

Hear the phrases road tax, road fund, road fund licence and you know the meaning – subliminal or spat out as an insult – is all about ownership. Get orffff moi land!

Now, back to this site’s choice of name. iPayCarTax.com wouldn’t be right at all. WeAllPayForTheRoads.com would be possible, but a tad long.

The fake tax disc that forms the logo and icon for the site – and is on the cycling jersey – makes it clear that the amount ‘paid’ is £0 . The fictitious tax, Bicycle Excise Duty, also distances the campaign from the actual tax concerned, Vehicle Excise Duty.

This way, both cycling-motorists and car-free cyclists can be part of the same campaign. A car-owning cyclist could certainly choose to take the line “but I do pay road tax…I pay it on the car I left at home, so, as I pay the same as motorists, I have the same rights as motorists.” I don’t think many of those who like the iPayRoadTax concept think like that because keen cyclists know they have equal rights to the road, paying VED on the car they leave at home has nothing to do with these rights.

Your clubs kit... end of story...

The question was what's cool, or not...

Where does your clubs kit fit in to that little equation, then?

Nice of you to demonstrate your attitude...

Yeah the topic whats cool whats not soon went out the window and road tax took over ha, but enough responses given and I have decided I am not going to flying down the A49 looking like lance armstrong instead blank but matching colours.

Oh just on the road tax thing someone stated that they don't or shouldn't have to pay tax on their bike to use the roads because they have done it on their car at home, in response I have 2 vehicles still have to pay tax on both.

I dont think we should pay tax but I do think we should have to have insurance same with ppl who ride horses in the road. My friend recently had a horse come through his window screen in the road and smashed his car up and put him in hospital because it decided to go nuts on her owner and run for it. My friend not only had to get his car done through his own insurance but also had the lad of the horse sue him.

I don't see any justice in that at all so I do believe bike insurance important as for road tax then no point we dont damage the roads but we could easy scratch a porsche or crash into one.

    Thanks for all the info
