If I have a Dura-Ace 7800 chainset and Dura-Ace b/b cups.
What carbon compact chainset would you recommend?
I want similar quality to the 7800.
Thanks.

    Why Carbon? Vanity?

The 7900 crankset beats most carbon chainsets out there.

    D*mn, beat me to it.
    I'm betting vanity too. :wink::wink:
  • how does it 'beat' them?

by what margin does it 'beat' them?

which ones does it not 'beat'? (you say 'most')...

Nout wrong with Vanity, TBH, its one of the reasons to go for a pretty carbon chainset.

It's one of the best all rounders, weight, stiffness, cost (if you ignore ring replacement), ease of installation.

Others are lighter, others are stiffer, others are cheaper, etc.

SiSLs are probably the best IMO.

How does the question concerning vanity actually help answer the original question?

Well you don't say what properties you want the chainset to have apart from carbon and Compact. Just saying carbon implies you only care what it looks like, especially when the best chainsets are made from Al alloy.

If you want a Carbon Compact Chainset, get a THM Clavicula or AX-Lightness Morpheus.

I went through this a while back and the best option appeared to be the Fulrum RRS, but that mental Ultra-Torque system had me not fancying the lack of longevity out of a £90 BB.

I ended up with a Rotor 3D with Stronglight CTII rings, and couldn't be happier. It satisfies the ease of installation, quality of build, price and vanity criteria I had, and is a little more unusual than most.

No, but the Rotor and DA 7950 would.

    Ok Thanks.
With the Sram Red, it needs a different b/bracket to my h2.
Could you advice on what b/bracket i would need?

    SRAM GXP BB

I'd probably go for a Rotor or 7950 chainset though, the HT2 BBs are better IMO.

Red uses GXP cups, as said

there is definitely more choice with HT2 cups (Shimano, Hope, King, Acros etc.) but the design isn't any 'better' as such, IMO.

Enduro bearings do some nice GXP cups though, in stainless and ceramic varieties.
