CO2 inflators

I was thinking of getting rid of my mini pump and just having a CO2 inflator with a couple of spare cartridges. But can I get away with the 12g cartridge? Or do you need the 16g?

Nope, you just need to make sure that you ride with a mate who carries a pump on longer rides in case you get more punctures than you have cartridges, allowing for any faulty cartridges or c*ck ups on the inflation front

Always carry the mini as well as the Co2. You may just need it as a back up. I make sure that I carry a mini, Co2, and two tubes.

Yepp, ditto. I also carry a patch kit on longer rides just in case (some friend who was unprepared once spent 3 hours walking home in road shoes and his bitter experience taught me a lesson).

It is hard trying to balance risks but taking a chance just to save 200g if you are not racing is probably not the right decision, in my opinion.

Slime skabs 6 for £2, money well spent. As Bobbinogs says, always have a back up.
  • That's sound like good advice. I'm going to start racing next week so I was only planning on carrying the co2. I'm obviously new to this, been riding around 80-100 per week for 3 months and never had a flat and never been with anyone who's had a flat, is it really that likely that I would get three in one ride!
  • I got myself one of these as a best of both solution

The pumps not great and I can't imagine how long it would take to pump up a tyre (touch wood, never had to yet!) but at least its there if you need it.

There's also a bling carbon version for about 50% more if your really bothered about the grams.

I have an Axiom combination job as well. Dont forget to undo the valve on your tube with the Axiom it blows the bottom of the pump a very long way down the road
