New wheels, Cassette fitting, gear alignment.....

I've just got a pair of new wheels (Soul 2.0s).
I've just been putting the cassette on and if I put the spacer & washer on between the inside of hub (spoke end) and the cassette then I cannot get the end to thread into the hub, and if I leave the spacer & washer out the gears are way off.
I've not had this before so was unsure if it just means that I need to leave the spacer off and adjust the gears, or if something else is wrong?
Thanks,
Miles

Thanks to this thread:

I've worked it out.
One of the spacers was Mavic specific and so isn't required. With just the thinner spacer, and a slight adjustment to get onto the biggest cog all is fine.0
