Just bought a pair of said shorts. I have another 3 pairs of Castelli shorts Velocissimo, Presto and Ergo.

Been really impressed with all 3. Well made, very comfy and good quality.

Thought I'd splash out on a new set of shorts so went for the Aero Free. Out of the bag not really what I'd expect for a top range short. Stitching of the pad is a plain zig zag not a lock stitch. Quality of the lycra I'd say doesn't seem as better than the affinity used in the other 3 pairs I have. Pad seems very plush but is at as good as the Kiss 3?

I haven't ridden in them as I'm not sure I want to keep them. Paid a good price from Ribble about £40 less than RRP but I'm thinking I could get 2 pairs of Ergos for the same money.

Anyone here used them and what opinion do you have?

I put mine back in the envelope and sent them straight back. They just felt cheap. Mind you they did feel like I was wearing nothing at all, which is nice. But so insubstantial.

    Update.

Despite out of the packet reservations these are by far the best shorts I've ever worn.

Chamois is brilliant so comfy. Rode 60 hot miles Saturday and they kept cool and comfy.

    Cannot recommend enough.

I've just got a pair of the BodyPaints.

PBK had 10% of Castelli and I had a 15% off voucher so didn't pay full whack for them. I know they're not the same but they are the best shorts I have ever owned [and my first pair of Castelli]. I've probably spoiled myself now with the high end shorts but think I'll drop down the range for my next pair to see what the differences are, so nice to hear the feedback...

Difference between Kiss 3 pad and the Progetto X2 is massive.

I did 100 miles on the Kiss3 and they were good. 100 on the Progetto X2 would be nothing.

Did think about body paints but is the extra over the aero frees justified? I don't know as I haven't worn the Body paints.

Just wondered how you find the leg length of the Castelli Shorts, I recently bought some Assos and find them a bit shorter than I am used to. Thanks.

My body paints are shorter cut than my Gore Ozon. Not sure compared to Assos but guessing they will be of similar length from seeing my brothers
