Fork travel indicator issue

Bit of a weird one this. I took the rebuild around the block to see how it was. When I got back I noticed that the travel indicator band had been half sucked down into the fork seal! When I pulled it out a tiny amount of oil came with it. Never seen a travel indicator dissapear into the fork before! Should I just cut the travel indicator off & use a zip tie for setting sag in future?

Yes, use something more substantial.

It's not a problem that the travel indicator was sucked int othe seal though is it? I was concerned the seal might be damaged for the travel indicator to be able to get stuck in there in the first place.

The forks are Rock Shox Reba Dual Air & the travel indicator is just the usual rubber band type thing.
